INTRODUCTION & INVITATION

Membership Enrolment Secretary:

Mrs Marty Kilby
"Mutfords" Hare Street, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, SG9 0ED, UK.

The AEC Society was founded by enthusiasts of the marque in 1983.The AEC Works at Southall in Middlesex were closed down in 1979, but AEC will forever be remembered as one of the most respected marques in the British commercial vehicle industry.

The Society has grown to be one of the largest clubs in the country with a specialised interest in commercial vehicles. The Society caters for many interests, including vehicle preservationists and operators of AEC vehicles both at home and abroad.

Many former AEC employees are members, along with transport historians, photographers, journalists and former AEC operators, drivers and mechanics. Many members are enthusiasts who have happy memories of AECs operating in their own locality, or who took an interest in a particular haulage or passenger fleet.

The Society's members are kept informed by the AEC Society Gazette, which is published quarterly and contains news about AECs still in service, vehicles and spares for sale, together with members' articles about their experiences with AEC vehicles. The three Webmasters for this, the Society's official website, are all members.

The AEC Society Annual Rally, is an established major event in the commercial vehicle rally calendar. In 2007 the Rally will be held at Newark-on-Trent during the May Bank Holiday; further details will be announced later. As usual, we expect the Rally to be well supported with appropriate sales and trade stands. Meals and refreshments will also be available. For further details contact the Rally Organiser via our Contacts page.

When possible, a one day Southern AEC Society Gathering is held at Chalfont-St.Peter in September, in order to stage a rally closer to the old AEC works at Southall, so making it easier for ex-employees of the Company to attend.

The Annual General Meeting is held at the Coventry Museum of Transport in late October and provides a good opportunity to meet the Committee and other members. A limited display of restored AEC vehicles, models and photographs can be expected, together with the AEC Society's own Sales stall.

Membership of the AEC Society is open to anyone interested in the marque. To join, simply complete the on-line Membership Application Form and return it, together with your remittance, to the Membership Enrolment Secretary at the address given on the Application Form.

Membership entitles you to a serially-numbered AEC Society Membership Card, a copy of both our Spares and Service Directories (compiled by member and technical author Graham Edge), and the next four quarterly issues of the AEC Society Gazette; depending on stock availability, you will also receive an immediate recent issue of the Gazette.

Clothing and other merchandise bearing the AEC or AEC Society triangular motif are available from the AEC Society stall at our Rallies and at the Annual General Meeting.

We look forward to receiving your Membership Application Form and "Welcoming!" you into our Society.
